Dramatic English Education Centres

Dramatic English (DE) has been the major driving force behind the increasing demand for English education through drama and musical theatre among many schools in recent years. Each year we recruit a team of passionate and dedicated drama teachers from all over the world to share their expertise and passion with our students.

Joint venturing with the famous actor and director Cheung Kin Ting, Alfred (張堅庭), DE founded the Dramatic English Studio located in Jordan, Kowloon in 2006. Since that time, the DE Studio has given students numerous opportunities to participate in professional drama and musical theatre productions. We had 1 production in the first year, expanding to 3 productions in the second year, then to 10 productions in 2009. All DE productions were and will be performed in professional theatres such as the Sheung Wan Civic Centre.

In order to produce a production, many people must work together. Besides those students on the stage, many could also learn through participating in the backstage crew. Does your school find it difficult to have student leaders in the design and production of sets, costumes and props? What about technical aspects such as sound and lighting? Stage management? At DE, we also have the need to recruit and train technical and production assistants. This Student Theatre Production Manager Training Scheme brings the needs of schools and our needs together and gives students more opportunities to learn. Schools can nominate students to join the scheme any time. DE will then interview and select students for the scheme.

Taught by our lead director Matthew Gillespie, our instructor Sarah Blackman and other musical and drama teachers, these students will learn how to design and produce sets, costumes and props. They will also learn how to manage sound, lighting and the stage. By contributing their time and effort in the actual productions, they can join these teams for free. They will be offered free meals and a transportation subsidy when they contribute on the performance days. I would like to invite your school to nominate students to join the scheme. These students, after contributing in the DE professional productions, will definitely be the future leaders/managers in the drama and theatre productions of your school.

Please nominate your students by filling in the form and fax back to the DE Studio at 2880 5055. This scheme is open all year round.
